THE MAGIC OF THE ARC AND THE SQUARE OF LIGHT: OUR DISCOVERIES IN THE PANTHEON
On September 4-5-6, as every year, at 12:40 am, the extraordinary light phenomena of the Pantheon will be seen:
the Arc and the Square of Light.
It will be seen also on April 6-7-8, at the same time.
We explain this in detail in the
book «Pantheon. Architecture and Light» published by Rirella Editrice,
also in English edition.
The Arc of Light perfectly matches the masonry arch.
«This is because the oculus—which is located a full thirty-five meters higher—has a diameter of nine meters, and the masonry arch has the same width, nine meters; its frame is horseshoe-shaped, so that its contours coincide perfectly with the circle of light. It is certainly not a random phenomenon, but the result of precise calculations, made with "primitive" instruments... 1,900 years before the computer age». (quote from our book)
The Square of Light illuminates the Square on the floor in front of the portal.
«In front of the portal, on the outside, a
Square of Ligh
t appears, perfectly matching the design of the floor: a square of Pavonazzetto marble enclosing a circle of gray granite. The architrave and the walls of the portal essentially 'cut' and rectify the contours of the Circle of light, turning it into a Square». (quote from our book)
These fascinating phenomena had a precise symbolic meaning
that we understood thanks to Archaeoastronomy. You will see the Pantheon under a new light.
