Most of the ancient texts has an antiquarian character and give the same information, often copying the very same words from one to the other.

Only the most recent studies apply scientific standards, and focus o the architecture and structure of the Villa, leaving aside the legends about its treasures.

Texts are listed in chronological order, and since the Bibliography on the Villa has thousand of titles, is only the more useful texts are taken into consideration – sometimes with a comment.
